1. What were you expectations for this course and where they met?
My expectations for this course was to learn the most important details about art. I wanted to learn how to connect to artists artwork like I have seen other people do. Yes, I feel that my expectations were met. Watching videos each week, and going to the three art visits was very interesting and allowed me to connect the way I hoped I would. 

2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your intial posting?
I would say art is an expression. It is all about the way the artist thinks, and feels. I would define it this way now compared to my initial post because I was able to witness art in this way.
3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?
I did not have a favorite artist and I still do not have a specific artist. I love artwork that has to due with impressions because it is easy for the audience to relate to it.  
4. Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?
Yes it is the same, I love online courses!

Week Fifteen



Not every piece had a title, media, or size...















1. Why did you select the inspiration pieces?

I selected the three inspiration pieces because each one had something interesting to me...

#1 "Self-Portrait Taking Selife in Sacra Conversazione (Holy Conversation)" of Barbara Hart taking selfie of herself . That is me every time I'm feeling pretty, dolled up! So I can relate along with many others. 
#2 Jack Edson inspired me just because I love quilts and the beautiful colors and patterns inspired me. It looked peaceful. 
#3 Gary L. Wolfe inspired me with his circular self because it was an extreme close up with much detail. 

2. Why did you select the media to create your self-portrait?

I selected a pencil and colored pencils because I feel like it is the easiest tool for me to draw with. 

3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did you overcome them?

The challenges I faced creating my self-portrait was making sure I made it look like me. I overcame this challenge by taking my time drawing my selfie.

4. How does this piece represent you?


This piece represents me because I am known for always being dolled up.

5. What elements and principles of art did you apply in this work?


The elements I used were line, color, and texture. The principles I used were was pattern. 


6. Did you enjoy working on this project?

Yes, I enjoyed drawing myself because I never tried to before. 

7. What do you think of your final artwork?

I think my final artwork turned out better then I expected, I love it!

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In "The Lowdown on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art" the key concept learned was all of the artists influences for his artwork. 
In "Tate Modern" the key concept learned was that curators found a way to open the audiences eye to structure an entirely abstract art to using what they have in the collection of modern art. 
In "An Acquiring Mind: Philippe de Montebello and The Metropolitan" the key concept learned was the power the director, Mr. Montebello had on people an how hard he has worked in working to make this museum what it was for all of the years. Working with thousands of artwork. 

2. Do the videos relate to the creation of your Art Exhibition project? If yes, explain how. If no, explain why not.

Yes, the videos relate to the creation of my art exhibition project because I was able to witness my duties for the project in the videos. Seeing the collections put together by real art curators, and hearing what their thinking process was it was nearly the same as my own, and also seeing the audience visit the collections that were picked to be put together in the museums rooms allowed me to see how it would actually play out if my work was to be really considered.

3. What is your opinion of the films? Do they add depth to understanding of the art concepts you practiced while creating your curation project?

My opinion of the films would be that they were the most interesting we had to watch. They add depth to understanding the art concepts for this project. It helped me understand more of what art curation is in more detail and allowed me to want to be even more creative with my thinking process.

I selected the two videos "Andy Warhol: Images of an Image" and " Isamu Noguchi: The Sculpture of Spaces" because the title interest me. 
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
 In Andy Warhol: Images of an Image the key concepts I've learned was how the artist took pictures of what he called celebrities to eventually go deeper into his work by making them into objects.
 In Isamu Noguchi: The Sculpture of Spaces the key concepts I've learned was how the artist viewed the space around the world/sculptures
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the text because they both discuss the learning of artist and what interest them in their creative thinking with their artwork.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of the films would be that they are both deep into giving us information and allowing us to understand the concepts of the readings by showing us a vision of what the artist pictured.

Step 1: The Exhibition

1. What is the title of the exhibit?


This is not a fountain, 2011-13


2. What is the theme of the exhibition?


Families all over India, and their accumulated dents and scratches speak to the economic reality and daily lives of their former owners. Gathered in a pile, as if discarded by many people at once, they also reflect ongoing migration in the country from rural to more urban areas.

2. What is the theme of the exhibition?


His family was rescued by a danish containership, which led the family to migrate to Denmark.

2. What is the theme of the exhibition?


Joyful and bold women have worn these pieces. 


Step 2: The Gallery
Questions about the physical space:

1. What type of lighting is used?

Exhibit 1 is bright all around, Exhibit 2 is bright but more lighting is pointed down on the sculpture, and Exhibit 3 seems to have the entire spotlight.

2. What colors are used on the walls?



Exhibit 1, 2, and 3 show white walls mainly around the areas. 

3. What materials are used in the interior artchitecture of the space?
Materials I can tell mainly used in the space would be tons of marble work. 


4. How is the movement of the viewer through the gallery space? 


I slowly walked through the gallery space admiring and observing the art work displayed. 


Step 3: The Artwork
 Questions about the artwork:
1. How are the artworks organized?

I noticed the art work is mostly organized by categories in each room. For example, my first visit I noticed it was a room full 
of impressions and etc.


2. How are the artrworks similar?

All of the exhibits that I have chose have a similarity in them because they are materials we can relate to or that we use 
today. 

3. How are the artworks different?

The artworks are different because they each have a different personal meaning behind it, they are different in material, size,
and color etc.

4. How are the artworks framed?

They are boxed off so they can not be touched, some are small enough to go in a boxed glass.

5. How are the artworks identified and labeled?

The artworks are identified and labeled the same. Providing the Artist, Title (if named), and Date. And giving us a small 
summary of the background of the work.

6. What is the proximity of the artwork to each other?

The artwork I chose were each in different rooms. They each holds its own size and you can tell in the pictures some needed 
more space then others.

Art Criticism :

Be Receptive: This sculpture gives me a nature feeling because of the fountains. The pots hold together well and looks good 
all around. 
Description: Their are many of pots all around holding together but scattered around while water is falling from the fountain 
faucets. 
Form analysis: The principles used would be Balance, Unity, Variety, Emphasis because of the pots, Movement because of the water running, and proportion because of the size differences. The elements used would be space because of how wide it is, value, texture because of the pots, and line because of the faucets. 

Bracketing: This work reminds me of an outdoor waterfall but just a much different look to it because of the pots which made it look unique.  

Interpretation: I think that the artist was trying to show us that we can create something ourselves that is needed even if we don't have the materials normally used for an original piece.

Art Criticism :

Be Receptive: The texture and bronze color gives off a rich look to this piece.
Description: I see a metal, bent up piece. 
Form analysis: I did not feel as if their were principles really used. The elements used would be color because of the bronzed
tone to it, and texture because you can almost guess how it feels by looking at the picture. 
Bracketing: This reminds me of mountains 
Interpretation: I think the artist was trying to tell us a story about something that was important to him

Art Criticism :

Be Receptive: The scarfs look like expensive satin pieces. 
Description: I see colorful scarfs floating as if they were on a women's head.
Form analysis: The principles used would be variety because of the count, emphasis because it is used often and has a
meaning. The elements used would be space because of the space between the scares and in the room, and color because of 
its beautiful color. 
Bracketing: It reminds me of a women's everyday scarf used for many things, such as your head, hair, or neck. 

Interpretation: I think the artist is trying to tell us these were important where they came from. 




*What did you think of visiting the Gallery and purposefully looking at the exhibition from a different perspective - the physical space, the architecture, theme, etc.?

I liked it better in this perspective. It didn't really feel like an assignment and I loved that. The space of the museum gives off 
a peaceful feeling just walking around and admiring all of the artwork was my favorite and really noticing the physical 
space, architecture, and theme behind each and every room. I enjoyed this one!


1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I chose "Expressionism" and "The Impact of Cubism" I selected each video because the title of the film caught my eye and instantly it made me want to watch it to learn more about the background. 
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The key concepts that I have learned while watching "Expressionism" was understanding every piece in a museum has a beautiful meaning behind it, even if work does not look like it has a meaning at all. Seeing that living human beings were used quite a bit in the artists art work, was amazing, the work was very detailed and stood out. The artist went for a style and stuck to it. By the colors being exaggerated to show more emotion, and the clothing and speaker allowing us to understand the break down and meaning of each piece, the facial expressions will allow every audience to feel a powerful moment behind the art work. 
The key concepts that I have learned while watching "The Impact of Cubism" was that cubism was the most influential style of the early 20s. New ways were made to show form and space. Each piece shown had a style that took off from meaning one or two things to combining it into one and becoming a whole.

The videos relate to the text because they go in full detail about the importance and break down steps to show us the meaning behind many artists work. 
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of the films would be that they both show that artist loved to bring art and life together. They add depth to understanding the readings and art concept because they went so into detail which allowed us to watch different scenarios of what is already there for us to read but show us examples with a background speaker to better understand the purpose.

MY MASK


















. . . INSPIRTATION IMAGES 


I selected each image for a personal reason. The first one made me fall in love with gold, it made me get a "rich" idea and want to use yellow in my mask. The elements it showed was line from the cut outs, shape, color from rich gold, and a little texture at the top of the masks. The principles it showed was portion/scale by the middle one being bigger then the other two. The second image made me feel bright because of its colorful look to it, so I knew I wanted to add a hint of color in my own. The elements it showed was line on the sides which looks like it could be the ears, shape, color, value, and texture. The principles it showed was pattern where a few of the items drawn on the mask were repeated more then once. The third image stood out to me the most because the mask showed a persons actual facial feautres and hair. Which inspired me to have eyes, nose,
lips, and hair. The elements it showed was line, color, value, and texture in the woman's face, The principles it showed was emphasis because of her emotion in the three mask.





In my finished mask I used the elements, line for the woman's hair, her facial features, and the 14k gold mask around her eyes, I used shape for the triangles on her crown and the circles in it, the heart, and butterfly,  I used color in the image all over, and texture from her hair. The principles I used would be pattern from the crown, hearts, and butterfly, and emphasis for the meaning of the butterfly and crown. 


My opinion of my finished mask is "soft" to me. It gives me a simple and peaceful feeling looking at it and that is what I was going for while creating my mask. I wanted to have around the eyes pop out the most and be bright but also draw attention to the butterfly added onto the mask. The process of creating this was a little difficult because I am not a good drawer but it was easy to come up with ideas by getting inspiration from other artist.

I chose the two videos "African Art: Legacy of Oppression" and "African Art". I was interested in learning more about African Art.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The key concepts that I have learned watching "African Art: Legacy of Oppression" would be that Belgium's Tervuren Museum contains the world's largest collection of Central African art. Pieces have also traveled. The pieces show that the artist created magical work that represented the mother land, and powerful meanings to allow outsiders to be able to understand, relate, and feel the story behind their work. 
The key concepts that I have learned watching "African Art" would be that African Art was unknown to the European's until the 19th century. They had a lack of understanding African Art. 
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Both of the videos relate to the readings because they give us a break down of detailed work of artist and their pieces. 
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of the films would be that I was very happy to see the way the artist put emotion/personal feelings into their work. The videos add depth to understanding the readings and art concepts by allowing us to see in movement the art in museums and hear more about the work created. Watching a video allows me to have a better understanding rather than just reading a text.

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?
It was interesting using my hand as a subject matter because I don't often like drawing hands on a human body because it always seemed difficult but once I had to draw my own it did not seem as hard as I thought. 

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?
I selected a pencil because I personally felt that it would be easier.

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?
It felt very weird to draw with my left hand but to get the hang of it I did draw slower then I would with my right hand

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?
I feel like it could be a successful sketch of my hand for not being a good drawer.

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?
I would never consider it but if practiced more, maybe.

I chose "Albrecht Dürer: Image of a Master" and "Velazquez" and that is because I always choose many things based off of the title. 95% of the time a title really interest me to want to read or watch something.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Watching "Albrecht Dürer: Image of a Master" the key concepts that I have learned would that he was making self portraits at the age of 13. He always enjoyed painting hands. He was extremely talented and traveled a ton and made his art even more beautiful within time. And also, each piece had an important meaning behind it. 
Watching "Velazquez" the key concepts that I have learned would be he was named court painter to Phillip the fourth. He often put meaning in his art work and wanted to capture reality and the truth. He was also extremely talented. 
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the readings in the text because they educate us on the background of artist. 
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of the films would be WOW. I love that the artist put beautiful meanings and thought behind their work. 
They add more depth to understanding the readings and art concepts because they videos show us each important piece and tell us a story behind why it is important or why it has the name it has.
